How To Save Money On Electricity During Summer

Below you’ll find some of the easiest tips to put into practice. If you like to share something with me, you are more than welcome to write it down in the comments below (remember to put a link to your website if you have one).

Spend less time indoors

This is pretty straight-forward. The less time you spend in your house or apartment, the less money you are going to spend on utilities. To really save up, though, you will need to be extra careful when it comes to turning off the lights, unplugging the devices that aren’t used on a regular basis, and especially turning off the AC whenever you go out.

Keep your windows and doors closed during the day

This could save you a lot of money during hot months you would otherwise spend on paying for the use of AC. Opening your windows and doors during the night and keeping them closed during the day will allow you to maintain a nice temperature in your house or apartment. This is due to the fact that temperatures are much higher during the day, and that heating can be avoided by closing a room during such times.

Be smart when using AC

Although there are other, cheaper ways to do it, most people use AC for fighting the summer heats. If you are one of them, you should know that there are ways to save money even while using it. First of all, you should always turn it off before leaving your house or apartment. There is a surprisingly large number of people who don’t do that. Second, you should be extra careful when setting the room temperature. Avoid setting a temperature that is much lower than the outdoor temperature. By doing this you will avoid getting ill, and at the same time, save a lot of money.

Use your appliances during off-peak hours

Many companies charge less for electricity used during off-peak hours. This means that if you turn on your washing machine, hair drier, laptop or TV early in the morning instead of during the afternoon, you will spend less money on electricity. It also means that if you turn it on late in the evening, it will still be cheaper. This is one of the easiest ways to save money.

Stop watering your lawn during the afternoon

Apart from the fact that the water you spend will be cheaper, the watering itself will be more efficient. Spraying water on plants during summer afternoons doesn’t make much sense because it evaporates almost immediately, leaving your lawn almost as limp as it was before.

Start using energy-saving products

Instead of using ordinary bulbs, opt for energy-saving versions. They need much less energy to produce the same amount of light, and are therefore much cheaper than those you have at home.
